After the close working across health and social care trusts, across hospitals, across care homes and across teams… how do we ‘stay connected’ to keep and build on the valuable partnerships, skills and knowledge, developed over the past couple of years?
Schwartz Rounds provide a confidential space for clinical & non-clinical staff to come together and discuss the emotional aspects of working in health & social care.
What are Schwartz Rounds?
Schwartz Rounds provide a space for health or social care staff to share experiences and to discuss the highs and lows of their work and some of the challenges they face.
The underlying premise for Schwartz Rounds is that the compassion shown by staff can make all the difference to a patient’s experience of care, but that in order to provide compassionate care staff must, in turn, feel supported in their work.
Schwartz Rounds are a place where people who don’t usually talk about the heart of the work are willing to share their vulnerability, to question themselves.
What are the benefits?
Schwartz Rounds provide the support staff need to create a strong, open culture where high quality and compassionate care can flourish. Stories shared in Schwartz Rounds have the ability to empower staff and our organisations. Staff can reconnect with their values and reaffirm their motivation to work in healthcare. Schwartz Rounds provide the only forum for staff at all levels across an organisation to come together.
Schwartz Rounds have been accredited by CPD-UK, who give third party assurance that the Rounds meet CPD standards. It is up to individual staff members to identify the learning benefit, number of points and type of CPD activity, e.g. reflective practice.

Who can attend ?
Open to all NHS health and social care staff (regardless of which organisation in NEL employs you) including care workers (in residential homes, home care, supported living, day care, community support, reablement etc) social workers, occupational therapists, nurses, support and ancillary staff; Carers/ personal assistants who are paid directly by the person needing support via personal health or care budgets.
